Napkin Folding For Every Occasion!

Napkins are the icing on the cake of a meal. They introduce personality, colour and tactility. A little touch that goes a long way, they let you express your creativity, impress your guests and show care for nature.

If you frequently host dinner parties or just want to change up your restaurant/café style, having a couple of different ways to fold napkins up your sleeve is bound to have your guests impressed and your table setting looking fabulous!

The Pocket

The pocket is quite similar to The Envelope but there are a couple of extra steps so it may take a little longer to fold. The simple fold is perfect for any occasion and goes nicely when placed wither on the plate or to the side.

  •          Step One: Iron your napkin, again making it as flat as you can.
  •          Step Two: Fold the napkin in half, corner to corner making a triangle.
  •          Step Three: Fold the right end of the triangle so that it meets the top of the triangle.
  •          Step Four: Follow step three, but this time fold the left side. You should have a square with an opening in the middle. Flatten the square out as best you can.
  •          Step Five: Turn the napkin over making sure you hold the top left corner while doing so.
  •          Step Six: Now fold a third of the napkin back over and flatten. Then fold it over the remainder of the napkin.
  •          Step Seven: Place your cutlery in the long end of the napkin. And you’re done!

This one is a little bit more complicated so you might need to use this great video from Duni.

The Envelope

The Envelope fold is a classic way to fold a napkin and it’s also extremely quick. It won’t take you too long and it’s guaranteed to wow your guests!

  •          Step One: Iron the napkin to make it as flat as you can.
  •          Step Two: Fold the napkin in half and make sure that the closed end of the napkin is facing you.
  •          Step Three: On the right-hand side, fold the corners of the napkin towards the centre (sort of like you would with a paper airplane). Make sure you form two equal triangles.
  •          Step Four: Fold the left side of the napkin over in half so that it meets the right side.
  •          Step Five: Now take both triangle layers and fold them over to left to create the envelope fold.

The Triangle

This fold is nice and simple too. The steps are very similar to The Pocket so you can follow steps one to five from that fold. This fold is definitely a presentation piece and is best placed in the middle of the main plate so that you can wow your guests as soon as they sit down.

  •          Step Five: Turn the napkin over. Take the top half of the napkin and fold it down towards yourself, making a triangle. Flatten the napkin as best you can.
  •          Step Six: Fold the triangle in half at the fold and you’re finished.

A video might help here too. Have a look at Duni’s guide on how to do this fold.
