5 Classic Summer Cocktails

With summer right around the corner, there’s no better way to get in the mood than having a fabulous drink to get you in that summer feeling. Whether you’re hosting a party or just wanting to sip on a refreshing drink in the sun, a great cocktail recipe is always good to have on hand! We’ve put together a Summer Cocktail Menu that consists of many classics and summer favourites.

What’s on the Menu?

  Electric Lemonade

The electric lemonade is a great summer cocktail, not only will the fruity taste put you in the mood for summer, but so will the vibrant blue colour. A vodka based cocktail that tastes just like lemonade, what more could you need? This cocktail is easy to make and doesn’t require any preparation.

-          40ml Vodka

-          20-25ml Blue Curacao

-          10-15ml Sour Mix

-          30ml Lemon Juice

-          Top with 7Up

Add ice to a glass. Measure ingredients (except for 7Up) in a jigger, and then add them to a cocktail shaker. Shake well and then add to a glass. Top with 7Up and add a lemon or lime wedge to garnish.

 Woo Woo

The Woo Woo cocktail is a great cocktail for parties, it’s really easy to make, put this cocktail in a shot glass to double it as a shot! This fruity cocktail is the perfect summer cocktail. Another Vodka based cocktail and with a taste of peach and cranberry in one glass it is perfect for sipping on in the sun.

-          25ml Vodka

-          25ml Peach Schnapps

-          80-100ml Cranberry Juice

Fill a hiball glass with ice. Use a jigger to measure the Vodka and Peach Schnapps and add to the glass. Stir with a cocktail mixing spoon and top with Cranberry Juice. Garnish with a lime wedge and umbrella.

Tequila Sunrise

A sweet and delicious tequila based drink with a subtly bitter orange juice taste, this cocktail is a classic and even looks like a sunrise! This cocktail can be modified in various ways, the tequila can be omitted for vodka for those who don’t like tequila, or the Grenadine can be swapped with Cranberry Juice.

-          50ml Tequila

-          10ml Grenadine

-          100ml Orange Juice

Fill a tall glass with ice, measure the Tequila and Grenadine and then pour into the glass and top with Orange Juice, don’t mix it because you want to keep the colour. Garnish with an orange wedge.

Cuba Libre

A personal favourite! This cocktail is so much more than a simple Rum and Coke, the lime infuses with the rum and complements the coke while also reducing the sweetness of the coke. Swap the white rum with dark rum if you’re not one for sweet tastes because it dampens the sweetness of the coke even further. This cocktail is perfect for a hot summer’s day!

-          50ml White Rum

-          Juice of One Lime

-          125ml Coca Cola

Add ice to a tumbler and squeeze in the juice of one lime. Add the rum and top with the Coca Cola and briefly stir. Add a wedge of lime to garnish.

Long Island Iced Tea

This cocktail is not for the faint-hearted and certainly packs a punch but it wouldn’t be a summer menu without a mention. This cocktail requires a little bit of preparation and has really high alcohol content. A tasty drink, great for summer days.

-          15ml Vodka

-          15ml White Rum

-          15ml Gin

-          15ml Tequila

-          15ml Triple Sec/Cointreau

-          15ml Lemon Juice

-          1 tsp Sugar Syrup

-          Coke to top

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, using a jigger, measure the Vodka, Rum, Gin, Tequila, Triple Sec, Lemon Juice and Sugar Syrup and add to the shaker. Shake until the shaker feels cold. Fill a glass with ice and using a strainer, strain the liquid into the glass. Pour Coke into the glass and fill to the top. Garnish with a wedge of lemon and lime.
